Master Tung’s acupuncture point 11.25 Zhi Xian 【止涎】”Stop drooling”

The name of this point is stop drooling, meaning it can adsorb or astringe discharge. We can understand it since this point is on the Tai yin lung meridian which is correspondence with the contractive nature of autumn.

Location: A three point set on the dorsal aspect of the thumb, along the radial border of the proximal phalange. Divide the line into four equal parts, the points are located in the junctions of each quarter. Some doctors will locate and puncture two or even five points in this area. I usually use two or three points distributing them equally.

Needle: 0.2-0.3 cun, or let out blood. We can puncture from dorsal to palmar or threading them all together from distal direction to proximal.

Reaction area: Liver (mainly eyes) and stomach.

Main functions:

Supports the spleen, rules the blood. Free the meridians, quicken the Luo mai.

Indications:

1. Drooling or slobbering in children or due to post stroke. From a mirroring aspect the thumb is related to the face, therefore this point can treat drooling. The lung can influence the face since it balances the large intestine channel that reach it. According to Dr. Li guo zheng from Taiwan this point supports the spleen, there fore can treat drooling due to spleen and kidney deficiency.
2. Stomach cold leading to pain, diarrhea, intestinal hernia, tooth pain. Since the point is on the hand Tai yin lung meridian, it influences hand Yang ming large intestine and its partner Foot Yang ming stomach. This point has a supporting qi ang yang nature.
3. Disfunction of qi and blood in the five sense organs: Eye disfunction and inflammation, conjunctivitis, keratitis, optic nerve atrophy, cataract, tears in wind, rhinitis, nose bleeding, gingivitis.
4. Any discharge in the body such as vaginal discharge or bleeding, spontaneous or night sweat, bleeding hemorrhoids, intestinal pus, UTI, prostatitis, nocturnal emission.

Major combinations:

1. For discharge and bleeding combine with 11.26 (Zhi wu).
2.  Common cold, rhinitis, sinusitis add 22.05 (Ling gu), 22.04 (Da bai), 22.01 (Chong zi) 22.02 (Chong xian).
3. Bed wetting, nocturnal emission add 22.08 (Wan shun yi), 22.09 (Wan shun er), three emperors (77.18+ 77.19+ 77.21).
4. For vaginal discharge add 11.24 (Fu ke), 33-10 Dao Ma ( 33.01+33.02+33.03).
