Master Tung’s 77.01 Zheng jin 【正筋】& 77.02 Zheng zong 【正宗】Acupuncture Points

Master Tung’s 77.01 Zheng jin 【正筋】 & 77.02 Zheng zong 【正宗】acupuncture points are used to treat pain along the vertebra column.

The name of 77.01 acupuncture point is Zheng jin. The meaning of Zheng 正 is straight and Jin 筋 is a tendon. This symbolizes the location of the point on the Achilles tendon.

The meaning of 77.02 Zheng zong is “straight ancestor”.  Zong 宗 is ancestor, this tendon is massive , it grounds us to the earth letting us stand on the shoulders of our ancestors

Location:

77.01 Zheng jin acupuncture point is located 3.5 cun proximal to the bottom of the heel, on the posterior border of the lower leg, on the midline of the Achilles tendon. Between bladder 60 and kidney 3.

77.02 Zheng zong acupuncture point is located 2 cun proximal to Zheng jin (77.01).

Needling: 0.5- 1 cun deep. Needling can be done while sitting but, in poor constitution should be done in a supine position.

Reaction area: Kidney, bladder, vertebra, brain.

These points are located on the Achilles tendon which corresponds with the bladder meridian. From a mirroring point of view, the ankle is an image to the head, as we travel along the Achilles tendon, the neck, the upper back and shoulders will be located. The lower leg is also a manifestation for the lower back. This is why this area is indicated for vertebra diseases and pain.

Main functions: Drain heat, open the mind/ brain, open the qi, stop pain.

Indication: 

1. Pain along the vertebra column, bone spur.
2. Stiff neck especially on the nape, pain in the neck with poor ability to twist, upper back pain, posterior headache.
3. Cranial bone or brain enlargement, hydrocephalus.

Major combinations: 

1. For lower back pain and neck pain Dr. Wei Chieh Young suggests to use 77.01 (Zheng jin) + 77.02 (Zheng zong) with 77.03 (Zheng shi) + 77.04 (Bo qiu). I also add 22.05 (Ling gu)+ 22.04 (Da bai) + Hand six acupuncture points.
2. For brain neurologic disease such epilepsy Dr. Li guo zheng adds upper three yellows (88.12+ 88.13+ 88.14).
3. For dementia in elderly people Dr Li guo zheng advice us to use the three weights (77.05+ 77.06+ 77.07).
4. For cerebral concoction add the three weights (77.05+ 77.06+ 77.07), and bleed 66.13 (Shui jing).
5. For lumbar pain add 11.12 (Er jiao ming), 22.08 (Wan shun yi)+ 22.09 (Wan shun er).
