Tung’s Acupuncture points 33.13 人士 (Ren shi), 33.14 地士 (Di shi), 33.15 天士 (Tian shi)

These three points Dao ma 33-04 are located on the Lung- hand Tai yin meridian. All Three points has the name Shi 【士】 which means a scholar or a soldier and they are divided into heaven “Tian” – earth “Di” – man “Ren” locations. Why the name includes the word soldier? It represents the ability to guard, to protect. On both sides of the heart, the lungs are there in order to protect the emperor and to carry out his decree. The lungs rule the respiratory system, they move the qi in the channels.

Location:

33.13 【人士】Ren Shi: On the lung channel 3 cun above the wrist.

33.14 【地士】Di shi: On the lung channel 6 cun above the wrist.

33.15 【天士】Tian shi: On the lung channel 9 cun above the wrist.

Needle: Perpendicular insertion, 1.5 cun deep.

Reaction area: Lung channel.

Three Guard Dao Ma 33.13+33.14+33.15

Main functions:

Clear and diffuse the lung qi, stop cough, open the chest.

Indications:

For common cold with runny nose, cough, phlegm.
Asthma, bronchitis.
Heart disease, palpitations or irregular pulse, chest pain or distress.
Arm or finger pain, upper back pain.

Major combinations:

With 22.01 (Chong zi)+ 22.02 (Chong xian)+ 88.17+18+19 (Si ma)+ 77.08+09+11 (four flowers) for cough bronchitis or asthma.
With 22.01 (Chong zi)+ 22.02 (Chong xian) for chest pain or upper back pain. If the pain is close to the shoulder add San Jian (Three shoulder point) also.
With 88.17+18+19 (Si ma), Mu (11.17), Zhi xian (11.25), Shen Guan (77.18), St 2, Da bai (22.04) for nasal allergies, rhinitis, nasal mucus.

Case study:

A 35 years old woman came to my clinic two days before embryo transfer, feeling weak. She is on a natural cycle without hormone therapy but in the last weak and a half she suffers from a dry cough, costal pain due to the frequent cough. Her lung X ray is normal. The pulse is slow, feeling congested. Her Tongue has a sticky white thin coating.

My diagnosis was lung-spleen disharmony and deficiency the points chosen were:

33.13+14+15 on the left, sp3+ sp 9 on the right side. 22.01 (Chong zi) +22.02 (Chong xian) on the right side with 77.22+ 77.23 on the left.

22.01 (Chong zi) and 22.02 (Chong xian) are major points on the lung meridian that can help stop coughing. They are used for asthma and bronchitis, together with Dao ma 33-04 they address the chest area and stop coughing. 77.22 (Ce san li) and 77.23 (Ce xia san li), are 1.5 cun lateral to St 36, between the stomach and gall bladder meridian. These points treat the head- face area: teeth, TMJ, sinus and lung costal area. Since she had costal pain due to the frequent cough I decided to choose 77.22+77.23 points.

2 days after the treatment she felt a big improvement in her chest area and the cough was reduced dramatically.
