Master Tung’s Acupuncture Point 11.08 Zhi Wu Jin+ Zhi Qian Jin

Master Tung’s acupuncture point 11.08 Zhi wu jin【指五金】 and Zhi qian Jin 【指千金】

11.08 is a combination of three points:

Zhi wu jin “Finger five metal” is a distal point.

Zhi qian Jin “Finger thousand metal” is a two set point more proximally.

The metal aspect of the name indicates that this point is regulating the lung and the intestines.

Location: A three point unit. On the dorsal aspect of the index finger, at the first phalange along the ulnar border between the red and white skin. Divide the proximal phalange into four parts,  the points will be at the junctions of the quarters. The distal is Zhi wu jin, and the two proximal are Zhi qian Jin.

Some doctors use two points instead of three. They divide the proximal phalange into thirds and locate the points at the 1/3 and 2/3 junctions.

Needle: 0.2-0.5 cun.

Reaction area: Lung, small intestine.

Main functions:

The name of these points is finger five metal and finger thousand metal. The word metal in their name indicates the functions addressing the lung and the intestine. It also refer to their location on the hand Yang ming- Large intestine channel.

These points 11.08 regulate and open the stomach and the intestines. They mostly used for abdominal pain and acute diarrhea.

Indications:

1. Stomach and intestine disharmony: Diarrhea, stomach flu, abdominal pain, acute intestinal inflammation.
2. Fish bone in the throat, any kind of obstruction feeling in the throat, plum pit, lung qi deficiency. Regarding the throat, the obstruction might be due to lung qi deficiency or even liver qi stagnation. Since this point is on the Hand Yang ming- Large intestine channel, it can balance the lung and the liver as well. We can think of this point in any kind of throat discomfort, goiter or swelling in this area with other points addressing this issue.

Major combinations:

1. For acute diarrhea, stomach flu add 77-02 four flowers Dao ma (77.08+ 77.09+ 77.11) and 22.11 Tu shui.
2. For obstruction in the throat add 77.27 (Wai san guan).
