Recurrent respiratory tract infection – is a common disease in which children are sick every few weeks with influenza, the factors can be environmental or infectious.The flu usually lasts about 3-4 days, but in children it can reach up to 10 days.
Recurrent respiratory tract infection can be divided into:
- Upper respiratory tract: A disease which continues more than 10 days (usually up to one week – is normal)
- Lower respiratory tract: A disease which continues more over two weeks
Some children suffer from bronchitis or pneumonia at least once every 3 years.
Reasons for recurrent respiratory tract infection:
- Weak constitution – Pre-natal qi aspect.
- Mal nutrition – Post natal qi deficiency aspect.
- Less activity or exposure to the sun.
- Wrong usage of drugs or over dosage causing sweat or strong purging- pathogen is still exists inside the body.
Character of the disease:
A relapsing disease, Long progress, slow rehabilitation.
White face, blue point between the eyes( low constitution) , loose muscles, thin body, night sweating , low fever , open eyes while sleeping – sp xu.
There are 3 stages:
- Beginning of disease- Acute infection stage : we need to work according to the differentiation to expel external pathogen or b. to support zheng qi
- Advanced stage – Combination of expelling pathogen and Zheng qi
- Recover stage – Tonifying Zheng qi
Chinese medicine patterns for recurrent respiratory tract infection:
- Ying Wei aren’t harmonised- afraid of cold – Huang qi gui zhi wu wu tang. Huang qi, gui zhi, shao yao, sheng jiang, da zao. This formula is hot so in cases of heat sings don’t use.
- Lung, Spleen qi xu: Sweating a lot, dispnea, yellowish face, easy to get cold. Formula: Yu pi feng san. huang qi 6-9, bai zhu 6, fang feng 3 -4.5
- Kidney qi and yin deficiency: recurrent flu, asthma, lordosis, yin xu signs. Formula: Bu shen di huang tang. (liu wei di huang tang + niu xi, lu rong
- Shao yin disease: Formula: Xiao yao san – popular because of the regulating and harmonizing effect of the formula.
- Excess + deficiency type- hot and cold signs. Ba wei huang qi san . (Liu wei di huang wan adding Rou gui, Fu zi).
The treatment should take at list 3 months, the successes is estimated by the fact that the recovering time gradually will be shorter.
